Amara Vadee's Design Philosophy

: Home : Philosophy

Graphic design can be many things.
For some, it can be an obsession, a 9 to 5, or a way of life.
For me, graphic design is a social responsibility that I take very seriously.

Effective communication is the basis of human understanding. One can only
comprehend the world around him or her based on how well someone has transmitted that information. Graphic design in particular is a visual art that exists primarily for public consumption. Whether or not the designer realizes it, the message portrayed in a
graphic piece is for someone who needs it. If the designer knows nothing, they then communicate nothing, which becomes a tragedy for all involved.

I have come across a few one-sided conversations where people outside of the field of graphic design question its importance. They use adjectives such as "gimmicky," "trendy," or "unimportant in the grand scheme of things." Some people don't even realize that it's a legitimate line of work. (I won't name names.) For those who are naïve to its importance I would suggest taking a few minutes out of your day to observe the world with a finer eye and notice the amount of visual information that surrounds us. There are street signs that instruct you how to drive, books that transmit valuable information, and posters that
evoke a call of action. Good design communicates well. Excellent design influences
the way people think.
